HELLO, I’M ANASTASIIA
I see cinematography as more than capturing images — it’s about sculpting light, shaping emotion, and letting the frame breathe with meaning.
I’m Anastasiia Cholombytko, a filmmaker and cinematographer from Ukraine, now based in France. My path into film began in front of the camera as a model. Those hours under studio lights taught me to feel the rhythm of a set, to notice how light can change a mood, and to understand the invisible choreography between the crew and the lens.
It didn’t take long before I felt an irresistible pull to the other side of the camera. My first film — a school documentary on climate change — made me realize that a lens can be a tool for empathy and change.
I’ve always been drawn to visual creation: sketching, designing, building worlds through animation and stop-motion. Storyboarding became my way of thinking — every shot a decision, every frame a choice in how the audience will feel.
Today, I bring that same attention to detail into my cinematography, blending intuition with craft to tell stories that live not only in the mind, but in the heart.
If you’re here, let me invite you to experience the prism through which I observe and tell stories. I seek to capture life’s beauty through light, tone, and color to tell stories that resonate deeply and leave a lasting impact. Over the years, I’ve started honing my skills across all stages of filmmaking: pre-production, production, and post-production , and I continue to learn them every day. From storyboarding, scripting and director’s treatments to lighting setups , editing and color grading, to be able to craft emotionally rich and visually compelling work.
“My goal is to create videos that resonate deeply, inspire change, and remind
people of the beauty and meaning in everyday moments.”
HOW I STARTED
& WHY THESE FIELDS
As I grew more curious, I began to analyse the visual storytelling of other cinematographers across different fields — from commercials and music videos to documentaries and narrative films. I wanted to understand why certain images stayed in the mind long after watching. In parallel, I studied the technical properties of light and color, explored different gear setups, and experimented constantly in practice
Social media became my informal film school, connecting me to inspiring filmmakers and new techniques. I was especially struck by certain commercials that felt like short films, selling not just a product but an emotion and a lifestyle. Today, I work across genres: commercials, music videos, weddings, fashion and documentaries — each offering its own creative challenges and psychology.
MY PHILOSOPHY
For me, cinema is an opportunity to notice and reveal what often goes unseen. The camera is my voice, a way to share what comes from the heart with the world. With it, I offer a different perspective on the world, sharing a piece of myself in every project, exploring human emotions and the complexity of life. I aim to open the viewer’s eyes to what they may prefer to ignore, to provoke reflection, evoke new emotions, and inspire action. My philosophy is to keep learning, never fear experimentation, seek new ways to tell stories and feel alongside others, and remain open to collaboration and creative teamwork.
